A new report reveals a 36% increase in funding for Latin America by large U.S. foundations between 2006 and 2015. In 2014 and 2015 alone, 306 large U.S. foundations awarded $1 billion for Latin America.
This new initiative will target organizations in El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico and Nicaragua for grantmaking and technical assistance. The CAMY Fund will also support new research on child marriage and early unions in the region by linking local researchers with grantee organizations.
Report underscores need for U.S. government to engage private philanthropy as it seeks to increase aid in the region.
