Katie Steffen

Deputy Director

Kathleen (Katie) oversees the Foundation’s grants portfolio, programs, and staff, and partners with the Executive Director to execute SIF’s strategic vision.

Prior to moving to Seattle, Katie lived in Mexico City for several years. There she worked as an analyst in the Strategic Planning Department at Nestle, developed a College Counseling Department at a local Mexican high school and conducted research on high school community service programs. She also worked for the Georgia Department of Economic Development in both their Atlanta and Munich offices. Katie has written ESOL curriculum for both Oxford University Press and Grupo Santillana, and has significant experience working with low-income immigrant communities as well as international students.

Katie was a Fulbright Binational Business Scholar in Mexico and a Congress-Bundestag Scholar in Germany. She holds a Master of Education in International Education from Endicott College and a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration with a minor in Spanish from Valdosta State University, where she graduated summa cum laude and played basketball on scholarship. Katie is a member of Toastmasters International and a proud volunteer for Rwanda Girls Initiative.  Katie is originally from Palm Beach Gardens, Florida and speaks English, Spanish and ein bisschen (a bit of) German.

I am continually inspired by the creativity, optimism, and grit that our grantees bring to their work addressing inequitable and outrageous situations in their communities. I am also inspired by my SIF team, and am humbled to manage and learn with such fun, passionate, and intelligent professionals.
