Paola Hurtado:
Communications Coordinator

Paola Hurtado is a Guatemalan journalist, editor, writer, communications consultant, and university professor.


Paola served as deputy news director for Canal Antigua, where she was also an anchor and interviewer for their prime time news analysis program “A las 8:45”.

Previously, she was the editor for Politics and Public Security in the weekly magazine ContraPoder. She has also worked as an investigative journalist and editor for Guatemala’s ElPeriodico newspaper and was Strategy Manager for the online newspaper Nómada. Paola previously served as a reporter for EFE, the Spanish news agency.

Paola was runner up for the 2015 National Journalism prize in the interview category awarded by the Instituto de Previsión Social del Periodista. In 2011, she was awarded first place in the United Nations Development Program’s Irma Flaquer’s Award. In 2003, she received UNICEF’s Communications Award for print journalism. She is a member of the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ).


Currently, Paola moderates panel discussions on social and political issues, is a lecturer on journalism at Universidad del Istmo, and is an active book writer and editor. She balances her life with her passion for yoga and her constant search for a more just society.
