The Seattle International Foundation Announces Recipients under its Global Program

The Seattle International Foundation announces today award recipients under its Global Program, created to support and strengthen the international non-profit sector in the Puget Sound area and Washington State.

The grants awarded reflect the tremendous diversity and talent of organizations working in international development in our region. This work ranges from supporting women’s community banking in Central America, building schools for young girls in Rwanda, and creating ecological advocacy tools for indigenous peoples in Ecuador.

“We are delighted to support and expand the global state of Washington by making grants to these organizations fighting to alleviate poverty and increase global understanding,” said founder and Board President, Bill Clapp.

The following are the award recipients under the Seattle International Foundation’s Global Program:

To support the women’s community banking program in Central America.

American Friendship Foundation

$12,500.00

To support construction of a school that will provide education to 1,400 students in a poor region in Afghanistan.

Earth Economics

$10,000.00

To support an ecological economic assessment to be used locally and internationally in order to document the economic value of natural resources in Ecuador.

Heal Africa

$10,000.00

To support U.S. operations for the organization to improve their website, donor management and media capacity, bringing attention to their work in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Healing the Children:

$12,500.00

To support the construction of a clinic and health education center in Guatemala.

iLeap:

$15,000.00

To support their Seattle fellowship program for five civic leaders from developing countries.

Literacy Bridge

$10,000.00

To support an evaluation project to measure the impact of their Talking Book Project in Ghana

One World Now:

$15,000.00

To support their global leadership program for low-income students in Seattle, focused on Chinese and Arabic languages and including a study abroad component

Rwanda Girls Initiative

$12,500.00

To support the establishment of the Gashora Girls Academy and farm in Rwanda.

Teen Smart International

$15,000.00

To support health and leadership training for 100 teens in Nicaragua through a web-based curriculum
