The Seattle International Foundation Announces the 2010, Round 2 Grant Recipients under its Global Program

The Seattle International Foundation announces today award recipients under its Global Program, created to support and strengthen the international non-profit sector in the Puget Sound area and Washington State.

The grants awarded reflect the tremendous diversity and talent of organizations working in international development in our region. This work ranges from combating malaria in Zambia, supporting mine removal in Vietnam, improving global education for Seattle youth, to providing income generating projects for indigenous communities in Guatemala.

Requests for support far exceeded the funds available.

SIF is proud to announce grants to the following programs:

To expand the reach of coffee and vegetable programs, as well as income generating projects in Guatemala.
2 Ayni Education International

To support start up salary for a Deputy Director, managing Afghan and US relations.
3 Beacon Hill International School

To support the Balgue-Beacon Hill Sister School Program in providing technical training and equipment for teachers and children in Balgue, Nicaragua.

Facing the Future

To fund new staff and expansion of programs.
5 Give2Cuba
$15,000
To help create the first US based pooled giving fund to support anti-poverty and development efforts in Cuba.

HEAL Africa

$15,000

To strengthen current activities in the US and develop new partnerships.

Healing the Children

To support the construction of a community clinic and educational center in Monterrico, Guatemala.

Jolkona Foundation

To support expansion and new partnerships.

One by One

To fund the building of a GynoCare Fistula Prevention, Treatment, and Reintegration Center in Eldoret, Kenya.

One World Now!

To provide language study, leadership development, and study abroad opportunities to economically disadvantaged minority students in the Seattle area.

PeaceTrees Vietnam

To provide general operating support.

Rwanda Girls Initiative

$15,000

To support the hiring of Rwandan teachers for the Gashora Girls Academy in Rwanda.

SeaChar

$7,500

To fund the distribution of eco-stoves in the Los Santos region of Costa Rica.

Seattle Rotary Service Foundation

$12,500

To fund a project against malaria through partnership with PATH’s MACEPA program in Zambia.

UW Department of Radiology

$10,000

To support the University of Washington Department of Radiology’s work with midwives in Uganda.
