SIF awards $189,500 in grants to local organizations working globally

SEATTLE – Seattle International Foundation (SIF) is pleased to announce $189,500 in grants under the Global Program, created to support the global development sector in Washington state.

The work ranges from supporting indigenous communities in Guatemala through vocational training programs, to providing essential health services in Kenya, and supporting girls' education in Rwanda.

SIF is pleased to award grants to the following organizations, based in Washington state working around the world:

  1. $15,000 for Amigos de Santa Cruz, to support their work serving primarily indigenous communities near Santa Cruz La Laguna, Guatemala .
  2. $12,500 for Awamaki to support the construction of a cooperative and community center for rural indigenous women and teen girls in Peru who are members of the Rumira Knitting Association. 
  3. $15,000 for Burkitt’s Lymphoma Fund for Africa to support their efforts to treat children in Tanzania, Uganda and Kenya diagnosed with Burkitt’s lymphoma, a rare but treatable pediatric cancer.
  4. $15,000 for Construction for Change to support the construction of a medical clinic in Kangundo, a rural community of Eastern Kenya, as a part of their 30/30 Project.
  5. $15,000 for EarthCorps to support the 2014 International Fellowship Program, training 12 young environmental leaders from around the world.
  6. $12,000 for Global Foundation for Children with Hearing Loss to support the 2014 Deaf Education Program in Vietnam, which trains Vietnamese professionals who work with children with hearing loss.
  7. $15,000 for Global Visionaries (GV) to support their Guatemala Leadership Program and provide funds to launch the Ashoka program with GV leaders in Guatemala.
  8. $15,000 for Med25 International to provide essential medical equipment for Med25’s clinic in Kenya.
  9. $15,000 for Mobility Outreach International  to support their work serving hundreds of individuals with disabilities, and thousands of community members that benefit from increased capacity in local health professionals in Haiti, Vietnam, Bangladesh and Sierra Leone.
  10. $15,000 for Mona Foundation to provide continued support for the Digital Study Hall program in India, serving disadvantaged children and women in rural and slum schools.
  11. $15,000 for OneWorld Now! to support their work serving underserved middle school and high school youth from the Seattle-area through critical language programs, leadership development programs and study abroad opportunities.
  12. $15,000 for Rwanda Girls Initiative to support their University Counseling and Exam Preparation program at the Gashora Girls Academy in Rwanda.
  13. $15,000 for Water 1st International to provide access to clean water, toilets and hygiene education for people living in slum compounds in the Pallabi District of Dhaka, Bangladesh.
